Screen Innovations Bolsters Screen and Shade Business with Appointment of Kim Parker as COO

Kim ParkerFormer Snap One executive Kim Parker implements new sales, marketing, and R&D strategies to leverage SI’s screen and shade presence throughout residential and commercial AV and window covering channels.

AUSTIN, TX (May 18, 2022) — There’s no question, the demand for motorized window coverings and projection screens is skyrocketing. Still recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, consumers continue to seek ways to make their home and work environments more entertaining, productive, and comfortable. Smart, stylish shades and screens hold the key. Market analysts are bullish on the trend, too; Global Industry Analysts Inc. forecasts the global blinds and shades market to reach $11.8 Billion by 2026 and a report by MarketWatch anticipates the global projection screen market to rise at a considerable rate (2% CAGR) between 2021 and 2025.

Screen Innovations is taking decisive and deliberate steps to grab a slice of this pie, most recently with the appointment of Kim Parker as SI’s new COO. Formerly Snap One Vice President of Sales, Specialty Channels, Parker has the skills and passion to strengthen and advance SI’s screen and shade business with dynamic sales and marketing, product development, and service and support initiatives. Drawing from more than twenty-five years of experience building and implementing successful business plans for a wide range of companies within the custom integration industry, Parker will spearhead programs focused on building a larger presence for SI within AV, systems integration, window covering, and other residential and commercial channels.

From our beginnings as a garage start-up in Austin, Texas, we’ve established ourselves as a premier manufacturer of technologically advanced, design-forward screen and shade solutions in the systems integration community. It’s time to press forward, expanding opportunities and scale for our dealers,” says SI CEO Ryan Gustafson. “The projection screen and window covering markets continue to grow at record rates; we feel have the right products and ideas to make a huge impact, and now, with Kim leading the charge, we have the right person in place to bring our screen and shade visions to fruition.”

Kim Parker Reaffirms SI as a Trend-Setter in Shade and Screen
A self-proclaimed fan of SI for years, Parker has kept a close eye on the company’s progression during his 13-year tenure at Control4 and Snap One. “I was blown away by SI’s Black Diamond screen material the first time I witnessed it while touring the manufacturing facility years ago, and even encouraged our dealers to check it out,” Parker enthuses. “As SI evolved into shades, I saw a remarkable business opportunity and felt compelled to help them scale their business model to meet the incredible market demand, just as I had with Control4, Snap One, and other companies in the past.

“SI is already known as the irrefutable trendsetter in the projection screen industry, and they’re on the same trajectory for shade. I’m thrilled to be on board to accelerate that momentum by expanding SI’s sales channels into new markets, improving our product development and manufacturing processes, refining our marketing strategies, and strengthening our dealer support.”

As SI’s new COO, Parker will be involved in every facet of the SI business, from product development, sales, and marketing to dealer support, training, and education. “Our success hinges directly on our dealers’ successes,” Parker continues. “It’s a key tenant of SI that involves an entire chain of deliverables that we’ll be addressing— even down to purchase orders and documentation— we’ll be making it simpler, more streamlined, and more accessible as part of our overall business-building objective.”

With Parker at the helm, SI is poised to build and broaden its shade and screen business through problem-solving, aesthetically appealing products, extensive training and education, and opportunities to work collaboratively with architects, designers, and window covering specialists. “Kim understands that SI is only as successful as its dealers, and is committed to providing them with all the tools necessary to make shade a bigger, more profitable part of their business,” Gustafson says.

Screen Innovations Strengthens its Motorized Shading Portfolio with New Nano 2

Screen Innovations Strengthens its Motorized Shading Portfolio with New Nano 2

Designed with the needs of integrators, designers, and architects in mind, SI’s next-generation Nano 2 simplifies fabric swaps, leveling, and smart home integration while maintaining a sleek modern aesthetic.

AUSTIN, TX (April 5, 2022) Whether Screen Innovations introduces a new product category or adds cutting-edge features and capabilities to an existing line, innovation never stops. The premier shade and screen manufacturer pushes technological and design boundaries yet again with the launch of a new and improved motorized shading cassette, Nano 2. This smart, stylish solution embodies a suite of revolutionary new features SI dealers have asked for while maintaining the same sleek, modern aesthetic that has made the Nano line a favorite among integrators, designers, and end-users alike.

An enhancement particularly helpful to integrators, designers, and architects is the Nano 2’s removable front cover, providing easy access to the motors, technology, and shading fabric inside the cassette. Leveling adjustments, maintenance, and fabric swaps during a remodel, for example, are handled easily, without detaching the cassette from the window. The Nano 2 motor and power and control cables can be removed from the mounted shading cassette for service. Other refinements enable smoother, quieter lifting and lowering of the shade and quicker programming and integration with other 485-controlled devices and systems via SI’s new 485 motor interface.

“This product refresh demonstrates SI’s commitment to evolving and advancing its motorized shading solutions to meet the needs of integrators, as well as designers, architects, and window covering specialists,” says SI CEO Ryan Gustafson. “We focused on the technology inside— and the cosmetics outside— to create a one-of-a-kind product that gives our dealers an edge when bidding and completing projects. At the same time, it helps position SI as a key player in the window fashion industry.”

The Nano 2’s rich feature set is currently built into SI’s 275 cassette, soon followed by its larger 375, 475, and Duo models. The new Nano 2 shades look identical to SI’s original Nano cassette, lending a clean, consistent aesthetic in projects where both versions are employed.

Integrators, designers, and architects interested in learning more about Nano 2 can visit www.screeninnovations.com/shade/nano-box/ and watch this video. Information about SI’s entire line of indoor and outdoor motorized shades and projection screens can be found at www.screeninnovations.com.

Screen Innovations Brings a New Breed of Motorized Window Coverings to IWCE

Screen Innovations Brings a New Breed of Motorized Window Coverings to IWCE

In its first appearance at IWCE (International Window Coverings Expo), Screen Innovations enables smarter, more stylish installations of motorized window treatments with two new trend-setting solutions.

AUSTIN, TX (March 31, 2022) — Screen Innovations (SI) makes its IWCE debut with two of the most technologically advanced and aesthetically stylish indoor window covering and outdoor shading solutions available to window treatment professionals today. Drawing from years of experience developing some of the smart home industry’s most popular motorized window treatment systems, SI extends this expertise to the world of window fashion at the International Window Coverings Expo (IWCE), April 5–7 in Fort Lauderdale.

At Booth #819, SI will showcase its meticulously engineered motorized outdoor and indoor shading solutions, Nano 2 and Zen 2, which take up a fraction of the space of similar motorized window covering options yet are packed with state-of-the-art technologies that make them infinitely smarter and easier to install and use than comparable products. “It’s what this product looks like— virtually invisible— that makes it stand out from the competition and attract customers,” confirms David Huse of Theater Advice of Dallas, Texas.

Other stand-out features include the option to power the Nano 2 and Zen 2 cassettes either via low-voltage cabling or rechargeable lithium battery for a simpler, wireless installation. Some of SI’s solutions feature the latest wireless communication protocol Zigbee 3.0 for unmatched reliability and seamless integration with other smart home systems.

“As homeowners explore ways to elevate the appearance, comfort, privacy, and functionality of their living environments, so has the demand for motorized window treatments and outdoor shading. But rather than follow tradition by developing basic, uninspired solutions that clash rather than complement a home, we’ve incorporated some truly revolutionary features into our residential window covering products,” says SI CEO Ryan Gustafson. “Our Nano 2 and Zen 2 solutions redefine the motorized window treatment category by embodying some of the most technologically advanced and design-forward attributes in the window covering market today. Our participation in IWCE and our introduction of these two remarkable products marks our commitment to providing window treatment professionals with solutions that make a real difference in their customers’ lives.”

Nano 2 – A Killer Combination of Beauty and Brains
SI’s popular Nano line is a window treatment professional’s dream. The motorized cassette comes in more than twelve decorator colors, including custom finishes, accommodates a wide assortment of fabrics, mounts quickly and easily to most bracket styles, and supports standard and reverse-roll configurations.

Particularly helpful to window treatment professionals is Nano 2’s removable front cover. It detaches easily while the cassette is mounted for instant access to internal motors, technology, and fabric. This simplifies any necessary leveling adjustments of the window treatment or a complete fabric swap during a remodel, for example. Other refinements enable smoother, quieter lifting and lowering of the window covering, faster programming of presets, and reliable two-way communication with other smart systems and devices, such as architectural lighting systems, audio/video equipment, and home automation systems.

The distinctive simplicity, elegance, and capabilities of the system have given window treatment professionals like Matt Fletcher of Eclipse Luxury Shades a leg up on his competition. “We finished our first installation of SI’s Nano and were blown away. We couldn’t believe how smooth it went; every measurement was perfect, and the packaging was amazing. SI is now our go-to brand for shades.”

IWCE ZenZen 2 Brings Elegant, Controllable Shading, Privacy and Protection to Outdoor Spaces
The first décor-minded outdoor shading solution, SI’s trend-setting Zen 2 boasts a customizable, architecturally friendly design that effortlessly transforms decks, gazebos, patios, and beyond into comfortable, stylish living spaces ideal for entertaining, relaxing, and connecting with nature. It’s a movement that bodes well for building new business.

According to the National Association of Home Builders, 61.4% of homes started in 2020 came with patios, marking the fifth consecutive year that new homes with patios hit a record high. Capitalizing on this trend, Zen 2 gives architects and window fashion designers a motorized shading option that seamlessly blends into modern home designs, thanks to a custom paintable, primed option for a perfect color match.

Accommodating shades up to twenty-five feet wide and sixteen feet tall, Zen 2 includes everything for a complete installation, including mounting hardware, motorized shade cassette, and a wide selection of popular outdoor shading fabrics, including bug screens. Much like SI’s indoor Nano 2 window covering solution, Zen 2 employs tech and design features to streamline installation and synchronization with lighting, AV equipment, and more.

Building Business Opportunities with SI’s Window Treatments and Outdoor Shades
Wireless motorized window treatments and outdoor shades are certainly easier to deploy than their hardwired counterparts but can sometimes be more difficult to control if proper steps are not taken. Today’s homes are jam-packed with Wi-Fi signals due to the proliferation of Wi-Fi-enabled computers, smartphones, TVs, appliances, and other devices. Add wireless motorized window coverings to the mix, and Wi-Fi congestion escalates. This can impede control signals from reaching window covering motors quickly and reliably, resulting in an unsatisfying experience.

SI has a solution to this control conundrum: During a lively and informative IWCE seminar Broaden your Business: How Two-Way Wireless Shades Expands Today’s Home, SI reveals the benefits of two-way wireless communication over traditional one-way technology in window covering projects. Held at 12:30, 2:00, and 3:00 p.m. on April 7 and 8, SI’s Sasha Osadchy outlines the smoothest transition to two-way wireless using products window treatment professionals already use (and their clients love) and looks at some of the latest motorization technologies shaping the market. Armed with this knowledge, seminar attendees can better serve the demands of their clients for greater reliability, elegance, and ease of control.

IWCE attendees are invited to learn more about SI’s wireless motorized indoor and outdoor shading options, including Nano 2 and Zen 2, by visiting Booth #819 and attending regional training sessions and online webinars, which can be scheduled by going to www.screeninnovations.com/become-a-dealer.

Screen Innovations Unveils Design-Forward Screens, Shades and Accessories at CEDIA Expo 2021

Screen Innovations Unveils Design-Forward Screens, Shades and Accessories at CEDIA Expo 2021

Screen Innovations demonstrates its dedication to the success of home systems integrators involved in the motorized shade and screen business by introducing a host of problem-solving new products at CEDIA Expo 2021. Always striving to make integrators’ jobs simpler and more profitable, SI drew inspiration from its network of systems integrators to develop technologies, products, and systems that overcome common challenges in the field effectively and efficiently, while providing end-users with beautiful, convenient, and fun smart home environments.

Whether it was an integrator’s wish for a simpler means of programming; sleeker, smaller motorized shade and screen cassettes; or more affordable installation hardware and software, SI listened, quickly pivoting to engineer and design the ideal shade and screen solution. By catering to the specific needs of its integrators, SI has carved a niche for itself, as a manufacturer that focuses its energy on providing integrators with meaningful products that make a real difference in the design, installation, and profitability of motorized shade and screen projects.

“SI is more than just a supplier, they are a partner that not only encourages suggestions from us but brainstorms with us to develop new products with one specific goal in mind—to help our business grow,” says Matt Uhl, owner of Gulf Coast Shades & Blinds, Pensacola, Fla. “It’s so refreshing to work with a manufacturer that’s open to discussion and builds the types of products we need to do our job better. The entire team at SI really cares about our success and time and again does whatever they can to help.”

It’s this open line of communication with integrators that has helped SI move consistently up the ladder as a leader in the motorized shade and screen market. Recognized this year as a Bullet Brand in CE Pro’s annual Brand Analysis Report, SI now commands second position in the motorized shade category and first in the motorized screen category.

“Despite a rocky pandemic-ridden 2020, we never stopped listening to our integrators,” says SI CEO Ryan Gustafson. “They are the reason we do what we do, and our top priority has always been to develop the types of shading and screen products they want. They tell us what we can do to improve, and we take their suggestions to heart.”

SI’s CEDIA Expo Presentation in Booth #5212 will include a range of indoor and outdoor entertainment and ambiance-enhancing solutions, including:

NEW Outdoor Entertainment Pavilion Featuring Shades and Screens

Outdoor entertaining is a hot trend that integrators, designers, architects, and homeowners are clamoring to capitalize on. SI has dedicated a 10-by-10-foot section of its CEDIA exhibit to shade and screen solutions that create comfortable, enjoyable outdoor environments. Within a custom pergola, SI will demonstrate a variety of motorized outdoor shades that turn decks and patios into year-round living spaces featuring SI’s next generation of outdoor projection screens that bring the excitement of home cinema to the backyard and beyond.

SHADES

NEW Zen 2 Design-Inspired Outdoor Motorized Shade Cassette

The first décor-minded outdoor shading solution, Zen 2 boasts an elegant, customizable, architecturally friendly design that effortlessly transforms decks, gazebos, patios, and other outdoor areas into comfortable, stylish living spaces. Zen 2 finally gives architects and designers an option that seamlessly blends into today’s home designs, thanks to a custom paintable, primed option for a perfect color match. Accommodating popular outdoor shading fabrics to 25 feet wide and 16 feet tall, Zen 2 includes everything needed for a complete installation. Another perk: Zen 2 installs in half the time of other outdoor shading systems, thanks to its unique snap-in tube and hidden bracket attachment.

NEW Fabric Wizard Ensures the Perfect Fabric Choice

To help guide integrators, designers, homeowners, and end-users through the fabric selection process, SI’s new Fabric Wizard provides one convenient place to learn about and quickly and easily determine the best shading fabric for any indoor and outdoor application.

More than 850 indoor and outdoor fabrics and insect screens from leading designer shade suppliers, such as Phifer, Mermet, Serge Ferrari, Wilson, and more, have been thoughtfully categorized according to the installation location, function, color, and other parameters, significantly streamlining what could otherwise be an overwhelming and complex exercise. SI’s Fabric Wizard starts by asking website visitors to identify the purpose of the shade, be it for UV protection, privacy, heat reduction, glare control, or insect prevention. Based on those answers, as well as color preferences, Fabric Wizard cultivates a manageable list of the most appropriate fabric choices. Integrators can present these options to their customers, confident that whichever material is selected will look and perform optimally for the intended application.

PROJECTION SCREENS

NEW Outdoor Projection Screen Options

SI offers those attending CEDIA Expo a sneak peek at its new outdoor screen cassette, Solo Outdoor. Expected to ship Q4, the weather-rated Solo Outdoor cassette features a small form factor and a zipper track and a high-wind rating that keeps the fabric taut even in challenging conditions. Also showcased in SI’s outdoor pergola is its Maestro outdoor-rated screen material, and 360, an outdoor screen material that can be viewed on both sides. These outdoor screen solutions will be paired with the latest Epson video projectors.

SI’s focus on outdoor shade and screen applications at CEDIA Expo inspires integrators to explore the outdoors when engaging with customers. SI’s range of options and ability to customize its products to suit the specifications of any job ensure integrators that they’ll have everything they need to succeed in the outdoor shade and screen business.

Screen Innovations TroyNEW Troy IP Control Gateway Simplifies Shade and Screen Programming

The Troy IP Control Gateway enables integrators to program the movement of motorized shades and screens efficiently, simply, and affordably. A task that once took hours to accomplish on a dedicated windows PC, with multiple software applications for keypads, RF remotes, and motor configurations, now takes a few minutes from any standard web browser. Through Troy’s programming interface, shades and screens can be assigned unique ID addresses, particularly useful when grouping products together and delivering repeatable designs, like those for MDU installations. In a similar fashion to shade and screen configuration, Troy walks integrators through the process of assigning commands to specific buttons on keypads and handheld remotes.

Kratos_CEDIA_Expo

NEW Kratos Low-Voltage Power Supply Breaks Cost Barriers

When Matt Uhl, owner of Gulf Coast Shades & Blinds, approached SI president Ryan Gustafson about the need for an affordable power supply for low-voltage shades and screens, SI immediately went to work, introducing Kratos a few weeks later. Although dramatically less expensive than SI’s flagship Janus power and control hub, Kratos sacrifices no build quality or operational performance. The durable steel chassis runs cool to the touch and is plenum-rated for in-wall, riser, and general plenum installations. Plus, each of Kratos’s eight ports is protected against electrical shorts and mis-wiring. As an ideal complement to SI’s Zigbee 3.0 low-voltage motors, at a suggested retail price of $389, Kratos gives integrators a complete, turnkey low-voltage shading solution as an alternative to hardwired 485-based shading designs.

NEW Fontus Dongle Enables Two-Way Power and Control Over Two-Conductor Wire

SI introduces integrators to Fontus, a revolutionary new product that enables SI low-voltage motorized screens and shades to be powered and controlled via any type of traditional two-conductor wiring. SI’s Fontus allows integrators to utilize wire that may already exist inside a commercial building or home to connect screens and shades to a modern control system.

No bigger than a pack of gum and easily mounted to a DIN rail, Fontus can make a two-conductor wire perform 485-based communications as if it were an eight-conductor wire, significantly simplifying the installation. As long as there is a two-conductor wire available near the screen or shade location, Fontus, a dongle that plugs into SI’s new Janus power and control hub, converts low-voltage communications signals and power from a five-conductor system for distribution over two-conductor wire. The signal is decoded for reception at the screen or shade via a second Fontus dongle with no loss of signal.

NEW Janus Power and Control Hub

In the past, integrators have had no choice but to mount huge panels or run conduit to deliver power and control multiple motorized screens. SI’s revolutionary Janus hub, however, can do the job at a fraction of the size of traditional panels, without the need for conduit. Janus is 75% smaller than its closest competitor yet has the capacity to accommodate connections for as many as eight screens and eight accessories, such as keypads. Its ultra-compact form factor combined with huge capacity for commercial and large residential projects sets Janus in a class all its own. Ideal for projects requiring the installation of multiple screens, the expandability of Janus is limitless. It can utilize all wire topologies, even a Cat5 or Cat6 can be run 45.7 meters or more to SI’s largest screen motor.

NEW Zigbee 3.0 Mesh Controller and Edge Router

SI introduces two new products enabled with Zigbee 3.0 technology, the latest iteration of the Zigbee wireless communications protocol. The Zigbee 3.0 Link Pro Z Mesh Controller and Zigbee 3.0 Smart Outlet join SI’s previously introduced Zigbee 3.0 enabled line of ultra-compact Nano indoor shades and improved Smart Plug to create a complete communications ecosystem that seamlessly interoperates with a wide range of Zigbee 3.0-compliant third-party devices and systems, including automation systems from Crestron, Control4, Savant, Elan, and others. Additionally, SI’s new Zigbee 3.0 devices enable the control of Zigbee 3.0 and RTS shades (Radio Technology Somfy) via the Somfy TaHoma app on any smartphone or tablet, as well as voice assistants such as Alexa, Google Assistant, and soon Josh.ai.

Screen Innovations Streamlines and Simplifies Programming of SI Motorized Shades and Screens with New Brand-Agnostic IP Control Gateway

Screen Innovations Streamlines and Simplifies Programming of SI Motorized Shades and Screens with New Brand-Agnostic IP Control Gateway

Screen Innovations’ Troy IP Control Gateway enables integrators to choreograph the movement of any wired or wireless type of motorized shade or screen and integrate with multiple control platforms with ease and accuracy, no complex and expensive software necessary.

AUSTIN, TX — Screen Innovations (SI) continues to take cues from its nationwide network of home systems integrators as the basis for the development of several revolutionary motorized shading and projection screen products and technologies. The latest in a series of recent problem-solving innovations is SI’s Troy IP Control Gateway.

Integrators Talk, SI Listens

After hearing numerous integrators lament about the complexities involved when programming the speed, direction, and positioning of motorized shades and screens, SI immediately went to work and quickly engineered an easy, straightforward, hardware and software solution. The Troy IP Control Gateway is ready and available to provide integrators with a far more efficient, simple, and affordable programming platform. A task that once took hours to accomplish on a dedicated windows PC, with multiple software applications for keypads, RF remotes, and motor configurations now takes a few minutes from any standard web browser.

“We believe all products should work together and consumers should have choices. The vision of Troy is to open up all integration abilities across all brands and all communication topologies, allowing our integrators to be nimble in any situation,” says SI CEO Ryan Gustafson. “Troy becomes the ONE simple-to-use interface to program all wired and wireless devices and utilizes the latest cryptographic protocols to provide military-grade encryption for security.”

Simple Software Results in Fast, Accurate Installations

The Troy IP Control Gateway’s built-in programming software is accessible via any web-enabled device, including Mac or PCs as well as mobile devices. On these devices Troy presents an intuitive user interface that steps integrators through the entire setup process, resulting in quicker, more accurate deployments of shades and screens. Programming can be handled prior to installation, and should any setting need to be adjusted post installation, Troy can be accessed on the jobsite for on-the-fly software modifications.

Through Troy’s programming interface, shades and screens can be assigned unique ID addresses eliminating redundant and costly programming. This adds efficiency when grouping products together and delivering repeatable designs, which is particularly helpful for MDU installations where shading and screen installations are often identical across multiple residences. Troy has been engineered to integrate with SI’s range of popular 485, Zigbee 3.0, and RTS shade and screen motors, including Zen, Nano, Solo Pro 2, and MOTO 3 and 5 Series. It also facilitates the integration of SI shades and screens with control systems from leading manufacturers, including Control4, Crestron, Savant, and coming soon for Crestron Home, Elan, RTI, and URC.

Completing a shade and/or screen installation, Troy automatically detects and recognizes 485 keypads and RF receivers on the 485-based control network, presents them on the software’s user interface, and in a similar fashion to shade and screen configuration, walks integrators through the process of assigning commands to specific buttons.

Measuring 4.1” x 8.5” @1RU, and boasting a plenum-rated attractive industrial design, the Troy IP Control Gateway mounts neatly, horizontally or vertically, into a standard equipment rack.
