D-Tools Reveals Biggest Profit Source for Systems Integrators in Special Report

Are higher profit margins derived from equipment or labor?  Data from D-Tools’ award-winning business management software settles the debate.

CONCORD, CA and BARCELONA, SPAIN — January 25, 2024 — D-Tools, Inc., the leading provider of core business management software catering to the needs of the systems integration market for 25 years, knows success in a competitive AV market requires a deep understanding of not just products but the market. D-Tools’ software platforms help dealers actively monitor their business operations and learn more about their customers, their vendors, and their colleagues to develop better revenue strategies. D-Tools presents these valuable findings from their customers in an ongoing series of reports. Available online to systems integrators, the latest, “How Do Your Equipment & Labor Profit Margins Stack Up?” compares the profit margins of products and labor.

According to the data, which was drawn from nearly 1,000 residential, commercial, and security integrators who sold systems in the first nine months of 2023 using the D-Tools Cloud business management software, profit margins from equipment sales averaged 43%, while profit margins from labor averaged 55%. Looking at residential integrators only, profit margins from products and labor were reported at 45% and 57%, respectively.

“It’s clear that residential integrators still rely heavily on marking up their equipment to achieve their desired profit margins,” says Jason Knott, D-Tools data solutions architect and evangelist. “This tactic has become increasingly difficult as the smart home market faces the continued growing influence of consumer-grade products with publicized MSRPs. Moreover, it is imperative integrators know their fully burdened labor rates, including all direct and indirect costs, so they can accurately determine their labor margins.”

The possible solutions to the profit squeeze? Execute and strengthen attractive recurring revenue programs and expand into new niche product categories such as high-performance audio and motorized shading. Systems integrators can download “How Do Your Equipment & Labor Profit Margins Stack Up?” and other informative reports free by going to https://www.d-tools.com/resource-center/industry-insights.

Nexus 21 Addresses Cosmetic and Placement Concerns Over Large TVs with Full Line of Versatile, Multi-Functional Motorized Lifts

Systems integrators can conceal and reveal TVs simply and affordably with Nexus 21’s broad range of innovative, installation-friendly drop-down, pop-up and swivel lifts.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ and BARCELONA, SPAIN  ̶  January 25, 2024  ̶  Nexus 21 is helping systems integrators extend their reach into new markets with several revolutionary motorized TV lifts and drop-down mechanisms set to debut at ISE 2024, Stand #2L500. Designed and engineered to smoothly and quietly adjust the position of an attached TV for optimal viewing while minimizing its impact on the surrounding décor, the products in Nexus 21’s portfolio deliver incredible functionality and aesthetic appeal to residential and commercial projects.

Pushing the possibilities even further, Nexus 21 introduces at ISE 2024 several new models uniquely designed to overcome challenging design and structural situations often faced by AV integrators. No matter the height of the ceiling, available wall space, ceiling access, or location of windows, Nexus 21 has a solution.

“Many of our new motorized TV mounts were developed based on requests from our dealers,” says Cory Lovett, Nexus 21 CEO. “No two homes are designed exactly alike and installation requirements vary widely, so when our dealers ask for new features and designs, we immediately go to work to create a mount or a technology that meets their needs. The products and technology we’re demonstrating at ISE 2024 are a reflection of this mission to support our dealer network with high-quality, versatile, and installation-friendly motorized TV mounts, along with technology to simplify control and integration.”

All-New Nexus 21 L77i Drop-Down TV Lift for Ceilings and High Walls

When wall space is at a premium, finding room for a wall-mounted TV can be next to impossible. A highlight of Nexus 21’s ISE 2024 exhibit, the new L77i Drop-Down TV Lift, solves this issue. Dealers can choose to mount a TV above the ceiling or in an enclosure high on a wall. At the touch of a button, the mount’s motorized mechanism lowers the TV from its hiding spot into view. “For the first time, integrators have multiple viable drop-down options, which is particularly useful in situations where the ceiling is too high, or there is limited access above it,” Lovett explains.

The Nexus 21 L77i lift extends as far as 52 inches and can carry a TV as large as 86 inches and 68kg (150 lbs). “There has been a dramatic increase in requests from dealers and end-users for overhead mounting solutions,” Lovett continues. “With TVs becoming lighter and slimmer, now is the perfect time to consider mounting a display overhead. Our highly versatile L77i, as well as our L77ix, which incorporates a motorized swivel, were designed specifically for these popular applications.” No matter the project requirements, the L77i is quick to deploy, arriving at the jobsite preassembled to help cut installation time in half.

All-New Nexus 21 DL-65 Series Pop-Up Swivel Mount for Extra Heavy TVs

Certainly, TVs are getting slimmer and lighter, but there are still plenty of applications that require a heavy-duty lift to carry beefier models. Outdoor entertainment areas where TVs need to pop-up from inside a cabinet often require a lift with enough power to move weighty enclosure tops and TV/soundbar combos. For this reason, Nexus 21 developed its DL-65 Series, a complete line of motorized pop-up lifts for use in covered outdoor settings.

ISE 2024 attendees will be the first to see the newest member of the DL-65 Series, the DL-65x. It combines the same powerful dual motors, quiet lift technology, and installation ease as earlier models, with the addition of a newly developed extra-weight swivel mechanism. This feature, which mechanically swivels a display to a preferred position, increases the weight capacity from 45kg (100 lbs) to 79kg (175 lbs) and can extend up to 97.7 cm (38.5”). The inclusion of sleek actuator technology ensures no visible tracks or gears in the extended position.

Other models in the new DL extra-weight, pop-up series include the DL-65en and DL-65ens, which are designed for the inclusion of custom cabinetry to cover the back and sides of the TV. The DL-65en elevates a TV but with no swiveling action; the DL-65ens elevates a TV and swivels it manually.

Nexus 21 CL-65e Ceiling Flip-Down and Extend TV Lift

Ideally suited for environments with high ceilings and end-users who want a flexible viewing experience, Nexus 21 offers its CL-65e Ceiling Flip-Down and Extend TV Lift. Combining two distinct motions, the lift flips down a display mounted horizontally, either flush with the ceiling or above it, then lowers it 24 inches. The mount, which accommodates TVs up to 65 inches and 45kg (100 pounds), can be mounted in the ceiling framing or bolted directly to the surface, giving integrators two installation options.

Nexus 21 L-65x Pop-Up Lift with Motorized Swivel

A popular conceal-and-reveal solution for living room furniture and foot-of-the-bed cabinets is the Nexus 21 L-65x. This near-silent, easy-to-install pop-up lift offers two programmable preset positions to raise and swivel the attached TV with one touch of a button on the included handheld remote. It holds TVs up to 65 inches and 45kg (100 lbs), extends nearly 98 cm (39”), and swivels 360 degrees, enabling the screen to be viewed from a completely different vantage point.

All-New Nexus 21 Integration and Sensor Technologies

The physical lifting and lowering of TVs of all sizes and brands covers only the mechanical aspects of Nexus 21’s solutions. Technology also plays a vital role in proper positioning, control, and integration, and Nexus 21 introduces to ISE 2024 attendees several new technological features to enhance installation ease and end-user enjoyment. Nexus 21 will preview its new integration module, which requires no commitment to a single control method—IR, IP, or contact closure—when specifying and installing a lift. The integration module, which comes with a Bluetooth remote, supports all three, dramatically simplifying installation and configuration for systems integrators. It is expected to be released Q2 2024.

Safety is a primary concern when installing any motorized mechanism into a residential or commercial setting. The inclusion of highly sensitive accelerometer and gyroscope technologies in Nexus 21’s built-in lift sensors provides ultra-responsive collision detection and stopping capability.

Where to See Nexus 21 at ISE 2024

ISE 2024 attendees can see Nexus 21’s latest additions to its extensive portfolio of innovative TV lifting systems at Stand #2L500. Digital Projection, a Brand of Delta, Presents New High-brightness Projectors and Modular Light Sources at ISE 2024

Digital Projection, a Brand of Delta, Presents New High-brightness Projectors and Modular Light Sources at ISE 2024

BARCELONA, SPAIN January 25, 2024 – At ISE 2024, Digital Projection, a Brand of Delta, is pushing the imaging boundaries with the introduction of one of its most advanced laser projectors to date. The all-new E-Vision 10000i WU boasts a newly upgraded electronics platform that shares much of its functionality from the flagship Titan series. Totally redesigned from the bottom up, this new E-Vision platform maintains its reputation of exceptional reliability for everything from classrooms to projection mapping, but with a host of new features.

Features usually reserved for high-end 3-Chip products, such as Source Redundancy, Brightness Sync and Auto White Balance Correction, complementing an impressive 9600 lumens and 20,0000:1 dynamic contrast, make this one of the most capable, flexible Single-Chip DLP projectors on the market today.

Commenting on the booth, Dirk Siedle, General Manager DSBU at Delta EMEA said, “We continue to bring cutting-edge technology to the display market with products such as the revolutionary Satellite MLS system. These new integrated projectors show our commitment to leading the development of all solid-state projects with some of the most capable, high brightness projectors in the world.”

The ground-breaking Satellite MLS gets new, improved light sources and fibres.

The revolutionary Satellite MLS has proved incredibly popular over the last few years and has seen a huge demand for even more brightness and efficiency. To satisfy this request from our customers, we have launched 20,000 and 30,000 lumen Modular Light Sources to complement our original 10,000 lumen light source. This makes installations even easier than before by removing the need for “many-to-one” fibre configurations, giving more flexibility. The new fibres with a decreased diameter and higher light transmission efficiency also mean that, when coupled with the new light sources, offer a large reduction in the system cost. These new features make this cutting-edge technology even more accessible than ever before whilst maintaining the amazing near REC2020 colour-space.

Also, on show for the first time in Europe is the all new Titan family of projectors. Launched at InfoComm in the summer of 2023, the 3-Chip power-house projectors have also had a complete platform redesign.

The new TITAN 41000 4K UHD along with the M-Vision 27000 WUXGA – the world’s brightest 1-chip DLP projector on the market – are packed with cutting-edge capabilities, including unprecedented brightness, vibrant colour rendering, a more compact footprint and improved, market-leading efficiency, for exceptionally bright, accurate, lifelike images for a wide range of commercial environments.

The new TITAN family of laser projectors delivers up to 47,000 lumens at WUXGA and 41,000 lumens at 4K-UHD resolutions and both models incorporate Digital Projection’s ColorBoost +Red Laser technology, which utilises red laser alongside the traditional blue laser phosphor system to display brilliant, vibrant colours.

Built into the TITAN 41000 4K UHD (3840×2160) projector chassis are several leading-edge technologies that make it a choice imaging solution for higher-end large venue applications, such as auditoria, performing arts centres, visitor attraction venues, houses of worship, and rental and staging.

The new TITAN family is a huge leap forward over the popular current models, with many aspects completely reimagined and re-engineered for efficiency and size. The new model is 15% more efficient when measuring the lumens-per-watt output than the current TITAN and superior to the closest competitor, firmly putting down the TITAN’s green credentials alongside its already legendary status as a projection powerhouse. Add to this the extended 40,000 hours illumination lifetime in ECO mode and the dust-proof, filterless design, the TITAN is designed to run and run and run with minimal fuss in 24/7 environments.

The extra power and capability have also been engineered into a much more compact chassis, meaning it is 27% brighter, 13.3% smaller, 7.4% lighter and 3dBA quieter than the current model. This regains the TITAN’s position as the Smallest, Lightest, Brightest and Quietest projector in its class.
