AtlasIED’s Atmosphere™ digital audio platform bridges background music with critical messaging features, giving security integrators an easy entry into new commercial audio opportunities.
PHOENIX, AZ (July 8, 2021) — AtlasIED is blazing a trail for security integrators interested in adding digital audio solutions to their product portfolios. Introduced last year, AtlasIED’s
innovative Atmosphere™ digital audio platform is a complete, turnkey audio system designed and engineered for quick, easy deployment in a wide range of commercial environments, with capabilities particularly beneficial for the distribution of high-performance music, scheduled notifications, and messaging in restaurants, bars, hotels, school campuses, houses of worship, and retail establishments.
Includes Everything an Integrator Needs to Succeed
Comprising a range of advanced signal processors, amplifiers, plug-and-play controllers and
accessory plates, simple to configure software, an intuitive mobile interface for convenient operation, and multi-patented built-in intelligence, Atmosphere™ includes everything an integrator needs to break into and prosper in the commercial audio market, while still providing their customers life safety features through high-priority input options built into the platform.
Modular, scalable, versatile, and incorporating a full suite of revolutionary technologies, Atmosphere™ can serve the digital audio needs of the smallest cocktail lounge to the largest banquet hall. The family of components has been designed to work seamlessly together, minimizing training time and installation, configuration, and programming headaches for security integrators, and reducing the learning curve for end-users. Because Atmosphere™ is compatible with AtlasIED’s line of loudspeakers (or any standard loudspeaker), the same speakers used for mass communications applications can be used to deliver music.
“From its inception, Atmosphere™ was developed to simplify the design, configuration, and installation of a digital audio system so that any integrator, no matter how new or experienced
with commercial audio solutions, can deploy a high-performance system,” says John Ivey, president at AtlasIED. “Atmosphere™ represents our continued commitment to helping integrators strengthen, refine, and grow their businesses. While Atmosphere™ is advanced in its capabilities, it sets a new standard for its ease of integration in a wide variety of commercial environments.”
Automation Features Streamline Configuration and Control
Through Atmosphere™, AtlasIED offers security integrators an opportunity to deliver a high-quality music and messaging distribution system but without the common installation and configuration hassles of other digital audio systems. Equipped with built-in intelligence and advanced technologies, the Atmosphere™ digital signal processors (two models are available) handle many functions automatically. For example, through data collected and transmitted by an Atmosphere™ ambient noise sensor, the DSP comes to recognize patterns like the need to raise the volume at a bar during happy hour to compensate for high levels of ambient noise. Unlike systems that rely on external microphones to monitor the environment, Atmosphere™ uses artificial intelligence to analyze and respond to the predictable behaviors of its users, such as consistent commands issued from an Atmosphere™ volume controller, as well as data sent from an Atmosphere™ ambient noise sensor to the DSP.
The volume level isn’t the only setting that Atmosphere™ adjusts automatically. Messages uploaded to the DSP as WAV files can be dispatched according to pre-programmed schedules based on priority or when triggered by an Atmosphere™ input device, such as a volume/source/zone selector. And should an emergency arise, the alarm tied into Atmosphere’s™ high-priority input mutes background music and other messaging or tones so that announcements concerning an evacuation, lockdown, severe weather or other situation can play through the speakers.
Intuitive Programming Software Simplifies Setup and Service
No matter a commercial establishment’s audio needs, security integrators can satisfy them quickly and conveniently through Atmosphere’s™ simple, intuitive programming software. The software guides integrators through the configuration process and provides ample opportunity for customization. Daily schedules can be created for the delivery of music and messages. Speakers can be grouped into distinct audio zones, enabling audio to play in only pre-specified areas. Last but not least, pre-loaded EQ files enable speakers to be easily tuned for the specific application and environment.
Plus, integrators can configure the system to authorize end-users to make minor adjustments via a mobile interface directly from their personal devices; for example, allowing managers to modify the schedule of outgoing messages while staff members are only able to adjust the volume. This minimizes post-installation on-site changes and lengthy end-user training for integrators. Additionally, should any wall-plate accessory of an Atmosphere™ system accidentally break, there’s no need to spend excessive time in the field to reprogram the replacement product. Instead, the system “self-heals,” instantly recognizing the newly installed wall-plate and loading into it all of the original customized settings automatically. Integrators can have the system back up and running in seconds, dramatically reducing time and manpower typically required to service a digital audio system.
Components Comprising Atmosphere™ Suite
Products currently comprising the Atmosphere™ digital audio platform include two varieties of digital signal processors (6-input/4 output AZM4 and 10 input/8 output AZM8); two amplifiers (400-watt AZA404 and 800-watt AZ804); six different plug-and-play accessories, including wall-mounted audio controllers (single- and multi-zone options) and remote audio inputs (RCA, Bluetooth, and XLR sources); and an ambient noise sensor. As many as 16 accessories can be daisy-chained to the AZM4 and the AZM8 DSPs. Boasting a clean, modern, industrial design, the components of Atmosphere™ complement the aesthetics of most commercial environments.

When seconds count, AtlasIED’s IPX Series of IP endpoints streamline emergency communications at Genesee Valley School District.
As the decades-old PA system at Genesee Valley School District’s K-12 building continued to struggle, technology director Jeff LaBenne began looking for a replacement—not just an even
swap, but something much more robust and feature-rich to satisfy the evolving communications needs of the school. The administration had recently secured funding for a capital improvement project, so the timing was ideal to explore options for a more advanced and effective campus-wide communications system. “Security preparedness has become an increasingly important facet of school communications, and IP-based solutions are leading the way,” says LaBenne, who keeps a close pulse on new technologies that help provide safer, more productive, learning environments.
Multi-Faceted Communications Approach for Lower Cost, Higher Return
“When I looked at a replacement paging system with additional IP-enabled clocks, it got expensive quickly,” he says. “The alternative, IP endpoints with speakers from AtlasIED, that could also display the time, plus play audio for both paging and bell schedules, turned out to be a more
affordable option.” Another benefit: the IPX family of IP endpoints could utilize the school building’s existing Ethernet network to derive power and distribute audio and video. “Because we wouldn’t need to get power to every IP speaker location, placement would be easier and more flexible,” LaBenne explains. “Speakers that required new cabling would have made the project much more costly and laborious—plus we’d be missing out on some of the useful features bundled into AtlasIED’s IPX series endpoints.”
Seamless Integration of Speaker and Software
Some other schools in the area had already transitioned from antiquated paging systems to IPX-based communications systems from AtlasIED and were thrilled with the results, so the Genesee Valley administration had no reservations about pressing forward with LaBenne’s plan. LaBenne spent a few days outlining the school’s communications needs, identified complementary
software from Singlewire to manage the messaging, and plotted ideal positions for a variety of AtlasIED’s IPX series endpoints in classrooms, hallways, gymnasiums, auditoriums, and more. AtlasIED weather-resistant, vandal-proof IP speakers were selected for exterior spaces, ensuring that critical announcements are heard during recess, football games, and other outdoor activities. Handling the project largely on his own, LaBenne started the process in the summer of 2019 and had the system up and running by fall in time for the start of school.
Flashers and Scrolling Text Enhance Classroom Communication
A system that supports bell schedules and live announcements may have been at the top of LaBenne’s shopping list, but the AtlasIED solution came with several other perks. For starters, the
IPX family of IP endpoints integrate seamlessly with the existing Singlewire communications software running on a Cisco server. The school district had been using Singlewire previously to distribute alerts over the school’s existing Cisco phone system, so all it took was some additional licensing to introduce additional security and communications features to the new IP network. The IPX built-in flashers and display enhance school communications further.
For example, flashers on each endpoint can illuminate in red to convey an emergency situation—with or without any audible messaging. “Previously, administrators had to make real-time announcements on the fly, sometimes during duress—never a good situation,” LaBenne says. Now, should someone initiate an emergency alert by dialing a special extension or pressing an emergency button on any phone, the IPX endpoints flash in a red color and scrolling text with instructions appear on the speakers’ displays. To simplify emergency communications for staff, LaBenne programmed one-button activation of pre-recorded messages for situations including shelter-in-place, lock down, lock out, and all clear. “And because the speakers in the IPX endpoints are so efficient, we can play the volume of messages much louder than other speakers would allow,” he adds.
Customized Bell Scheduling Supports Varied K-12 Routines
The AtlasIED/Singlewire pairing also excels at delivering routine, non-emergency announcements, including bells throughout the school day. Six hundred elementary-, middle-, and high-school students are housed in a single building, yet follow different schedules. The Singlewire software
allowed LaBenne to group specific AtlasIED speakers and IP endpoints together and create a bell schedule for each zone. The schedule can be easily modified and audio zones altered to reflect events like an early, campus-wide dismissal due to inclement weather conditions.
IPX Speakers Blend into Classroom Environments with Ease
Certainly, it is the technology inside the IPX endpoints that makes them a wise investment for schools like Genesee Valley. But it is what’s on the outside
that makes them a pleasing addition to the classroom environment. “The IPX family of IP endpoints from AtlasIED simply look better than any speaker on the market,” LaBenne professes. “With their built-in clock, which was programmed to display the same green as our school color, and attractive housing and mounting options, they make our school look great.” Plus, the colored-coded messaging enables the school to more effectively communicate events—red for emergencies, green for routine announcements, for example. At a glance, students and staff understand the nature of the message, enhancing safety protocols and procedures dramatically for the school district.
Getting More than Bargained For
Thanks to a variety of design options in AtlasIED’s IPX endpoint line, LaBenne was able to choose the perfect product for every area of the school—more than 200 IP speakers throughout the 230,500-square-foot building and several outdoor locations. In hallways, he went with dual-sided IP-DDS endpoints so that students could see and hear messages no matter which direction they were walking. Surface-mounted IP-SDMF endpoints with integrated flashers, meanwhile, went into most classrooms, offices, and gymnasiums, with flasher colors customized to illuminate in green for non-critical events and red for emergencies. To deliver audible messages to restrooms and stairwells, LaBenne used IP-SM speakers, and for outdoor areas, some existing analog speakers were replaced with IP-HVP speakers.
For the few existing outdoor analog speakers that remained, LaBenne employed a gateway that converts digital audio signals to analog so they can relay the same audible notifications as the IPX endpoints.
From corner to corner, top to bottom, the entire Genesee Valley School campus is covered. What started as a quest to replace a PA system, turned into something much more. In addition to supporting the school’s PA needs, the AtlasIED IPX family of IP endpoints enhance the efficiency of Genesee Valley’s emergency and safety protocols through modern, flexible technology that eliminates the manual, dated communications processes of the past.

Anyone can register for the event at https://bit.ly/3ezMqRk.
Enhancements Combine with Original Features
While Atmosphere™ 2.0 represents an exciting progression of AtlasIED’s digital audio platform, all of the innovative features of the original system remain intact. Atmosphere™ 2.0 enables each authorized user to manage the system from his or her own mobile device, lending a cleaner, more hygienic approach to control no matter which operating system is being utilized. Setup is simple: The controls of the Atmosphere™ 2.0 digital audio processor populate automatically when a user’s mobile device scans the DSP’s QR code. Per parameters programmed initially into the system by
the AV integrator, this QR code grants access to certain features; for example, allowing a manager to modify the schedule of outgoing messages, while staff is permitted to only adjust the volume level.
Leveraging this hands-off approach to control is a revolutionary ambient noise compensation technology. Built into each Atmosphere™ 2.0 DSP (two models are available) are multi-patented algorithms, which enable it to continually learn and adapt to changes in the environment. Through data collected and transmitted by an Atmosphere™ 2.0 ambient noise sensor, the DSP comes to recognize patterns like the need to raise the volume at a bar during happy hour to compensate for high levels of ambient noise. Unlike systems that rely on external microphones to monitor the environment, Atmosphere™ 2.0 uses artificial intelligence to analyze and respond to the predictable behaviors of its users, such as consistent commands issued from an Atmosphere™ 2.0 volume controller, as well as data sent from an Atmosphere™ 2.0 ambient noise sensor to the DSP.
The audio level isn’t the only setting that Atmosphere™ 2.0 adjusts automatically. Messages uploaded to the DSP as WAV files can be dispatched according to a pre-programmed schedule based on priority or when triggered by an Atmosphere™ 2.0 input device, such as a volume/source/zone selector. This level of automation affords AV integrators a digital audio solution that can be customized for exceptional operational convenience, efficiency, and performance. Adding another layer of customization is a built-in Tilter Filter™, which drastically simplifies tuning the audio for the specific room or zone with an easy-to-use feature that helps balance lows and highs.
Interoperable Components Boast Attractive Industrial Design
Products currently comprising the Atmosphere™ 2.0 digital audio platform include two varieties of digital signal processors (6-input/4-output AZM4 and 10-input/8-output AZM8; two amplifiers (400-watt AZA404 and 800-watt AZA804); six different plug-and-play accessories, including wall-mounted audio controllers (single- and multi-zone options); and remote audio inputs (RCA, Bluetooth, and XLR sources); and an ambient noise sensor. As many as 16 accessories can be daisy-chained to the AZM4 and AZM8 DSP. Plus, the entire Atmosphere™ 2.0 lineup has been engineered to integrate with AtlasIED loudspeakers; integrators can use the preloaded EQ files in an Atmosphere™ DSP to easily tune the speakers for the specific application and environment. Boasting a clean, modern, industrial design, Atmosphere™ 2.0 complements the aesthetic of most commercial environments.
